Holi is a Hindu festival that has been celebrated since ancient times. The Holi Festival is celebrated as a way to welcome in spring, and also is seen as a new beginning where people can release all their inhibitions and start fresh. It is said that during the Holi Festival, the gods turn a blind eye, and itâs one of the few times extremely devout Hindus allow themselves to let loose. They open up and enjoy each otherâs company, take time to dance and party, and throw their cultural norms to the side. On the first day of the festival, a bonfire is lit to symbolically burn away all the bad and give way to a colorful and vibrant new future.

Hot air balloon festivals are held annually in many places throughout the year, allowing hot air balloons operators to gather- as well as for the general public- to participate in various activities. They can include races; evening "night glows", or "glowdeos" (in the US), in which balloons are fired while remaining tethered to the ground; and rides.

The origin of las Fallas comes from the old carpenterâs tradition who, when celebrating the arrival of spring on 19th March, used to burn pieces of wood (parots) that were used to prop up their lights during the winter. To this bonfire they gradually started to add old belongings and rags, which gave the wooden structure a human-looking aspect, until they became the ninots that we know today. The Valencian sense of humour soon gave the irony shown in the ninots which is maintained at present. The Fallas celebrations have evolved into temporary works of art which, in some cases, cost millions of euros.

Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) is a two day holiday that reunites the living and dead. Families create ofrendas (Offerings) to honor their departed family members that have passed. These altars are decorated with bright yellow marigold flowers, photos of the departed, and the favorite foods and drinks of the one being honored. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods and join in the celebrationsÂ

Songkran is a Thai festival rooted in Buddhist traditions, signifying renewal and purification. The name Songkran comes from the Sanskrit word saáđ krÄnti, meaning âastrological passageâ or âtransition,â representing the movement of the sun into Aries. Originally a time for cleansing and paying respect to elders, Songkran has evolved into a countrywide celebration, best known today for its water fights. Songkran takes place annually from April 13th to 15th, though some cities, like Chiang Mai, start celebrations as early as April 12th. As the hottest time of the year in Thailand, the water fights serve as a fun way to cool down while marking the new year.Â
